Electronic Program Guide

- Electronic Program Guide Explain
Shows 7 to 9-days of information in the EPG that is stored on the hard drive.
Two Electronic Program Guide display options, Full-Screen EPG and Picture-in-Guide EPG.
Page-At-A-Time Scrolling in EPG.
When in the EPG, use "skip forward" and "skip backward" keys to go ahead or back 24 hours.
While watching or recording a DVR event, it is still viewable in ¼ screen in the EPG.
If a DVR feature (pause) was selected prior to entering the Guide, the feature will still work in the Guide.
Press Record while in EPG to record to the end of the scheduled event.

The update of the EPG information can be canceled to be performed at a later time. Note: if the guide is not updated later, there will only be 2 days of information available. If the EPG update gets stuck, it will now time-out after 5 minutes instead of remaining on the screen.

Along with being on the higher number channels, Local DMA Channels are on the same channel number range as their off-air signal, which can be found below channel 101.
- Local Link Explain
The Local Link feature allows local broadcast or cable channels to be viewed via the satellite receiver. Once the channels are set up, select and view those channels the same way as any of the satellite channels either through the EPG or the Browse Banner.

Scan or manually enter a digital over-the-air channel up to 99 when the receiver is set to "Off Air" in the HDTV setup menu
- Program Search Explain
When you enter the search function, the title of the program you are currently viewing will appear in the search text field. You have the option to search by program title or for key words within the extended program information and description.
- Use the # (pound) key. The current program's title will be filled in. Use that to search or clear it and type in another name.
- Go to Menu, Themes & Search, Search. The keywords can be entered with the remote control alpha-numeric keys (cell-phone style) or using the right/left/up/down blue arrow buttons and Select to access the on-screen keyboard.

- Alternative language and Descriptive Video support Explain
Descriptive Video is an audio narration, which provides the listening audience with descriptions of scenes, settings, costumes and body language in the natural pauses of dialogue or songs. It is being offered as a service for the visually impaired.
- Caller ID with history Explain
Displays caller information on the TV screen. You must have a phone line plugged in and a subscription with the local telephone company for Caller ID to show on the television. Caller ID information will show on a VCR tape if information pops up while recording.

- Event Timer Explain
Set up a timer on the receiver to tell the VCR to start recording, automatically tune onto a pre-programmed channel when it starts, or give an on-screen reminder of a designated program's starting time. A blinking clock will appear 5 minutes before the timer fires.

120 channels distributed among 4 user defined lists allows you to view guide information for only those channels that you set up in the Favorite List. Also choose between viewing all channels (All Chan) or all subscribed channels (All Sub).

V-chip technology for Parental Control allows you to block out channels or individual programs based on ratings and content. Use Ratings Lock to block 5000 and 6000 channel numbers. Separate locks are available for adult and PPV.

Protect: prevents recording over an event when the hard drive is full. When Locks are set, you must enter a password to delete events.

Slow Motion (done while in "pause"), Slow Fwd ¼ and 1/15th speed in addition to Standard Fast FWD 4X, 15X, 60X, and 300X, Slow Reverse 1X and ¼ in addition to Standard Reverse 4X, 15X, 60X, and 300X, Frame-by-frame advance and back using the "skip ahead" and "skip back" buttons while in pause. Skip forward (30 seconds), skip back (10 seconds).

HDTV/SDTV
- Delivers high-definition and standard-definition programming. Explain
High-definition content can be viewed using HD outputs, or HD content is automatically down-converted for viewing using SD outputs.
Standard-definition can be viewed using SD outputs, or SD content is automatically upconverted for viewing using HD outputs. Outputs are toggled using the remote control SD/HD button, or the front panel Output button.
Both HD outputs are not active at the same time.

Allows you to display programming on DVI-enabled high-definition television monitors.
- Four methods to adapt a non-HD 4:3 image to a 16:9 HDTV screen. Explain
Manipulates a 4:3 image to fill the screen simply by pressing the asterisk (*) button on the remote control.
- Zoom - Proportionally expands the non 16:9 image horizontally and vertically to fill the 16:9 screen.
- Stretch - Expands the non 16:9 image horizontally to fill the 16:9 screen
- Normal - each side of a 4:3 image can be masked with black bars
- Gray bars - each side of a 4:3 image can be masked with gray bars

- Integrated 8VSB off-air analog/digital tuner. Explain
For reception of off-air analog broadcasts and off-air digital broadcasts (including high-definition) from an off-air antenna. This is disabled unless the receiver has activated DISH Network programming. It can record digital off-air programming to the hard drive.
- Supports all 18 ATSC (8VSB) input formats. Explain
Outputs 480p, 720p and 1080i HDTV resolutions in addition to 480i SDTV resolutions. 1080i and 720p HDTV formats represent the ultimate in picture quality offered by our HDTV standard. This receiver does not currently support 1080p. Instead, use 720p for fast action, or 1080i for other programming.

If the remote control batteries are low, a small "Low Battery" text indicator appears in the view banner whenever the view banner is displayed.

- Picture-In-Picture (PIP) Explain
PIP allows you to watch two different programs at the same time. Note: You cannot use PIP if either of the programs are High Definition (HD) broadcasts - both programs must be Standard Definition (SD) broadcasts.
- PIP - press once to open a small window; press twice to enlarge the window; press three times to close the window
- PIP Swap - to move the program in the small window to the full screen window. Channel changes, DVR functions, etc. can only be made in the full screen window.

- Standby Reset Explain
Standby Reset helps to reduce problems by clearing errors encountered over the previous 24 hours.
This feature cannot be enabled/disabled. The Reset will only occur if a box is manually placed into standby for at least 10 minutes. It will attempt to reset at 2am, 3am, and 4am nightly (it will only reset one time-once it resets it will stop trying until the following night) The box will not reset if there is a timer that interferes, or is scheduled within 30 minutes of the attempt to reset. The box will not interrupt a download in order to reset. The reset is not visible.
