The DISH Network DVR Service allows you to customize the way you watch television. You can record and play back programs with full digital audio and video quality, without a VCR. You can use automatic ('auto') recording or on-demand recording, or both at the same time.
The Quick Reference guide may offer assistance with DVR functions.
AUTO RECORDING
- Turn on the receiver and tune it to a channel. After you have watched a live program for a few seconds, you can use the remote control DVR buttons as follows:
- Press the PAUSE button to pause the program. On the TV screen, the receiver displays the length of time the program has been paused. Press this button again to go back to watch the program.
- Press the REVERSE button to move back rapidly through the program. Press this button multiple times to move back at faster speeds. There are a total of 4 speeds: 4x, 15x, 60x, and 300x.
- Press the FORWARD button to move ahead rapidly through the program. Press this button multiple times to move ahead at faster speeds. There are a total of 4 speeds: 4x, 15x, 60x, and 300x.
- Press the PLAY button to watch or resume watching a program. Also, press this button to cancel forward or reverse operations.
- Press the SKIP BACK button to skip back 10 seconds in the program.
- Press the SKIP AHEAD button to skip forward 30 seconds in the program. You can not go ahead into a part of the program that has not yet been broadcast.
- Press the VIEW button to go to "Live" programming.
Important
If using DISH Network DVR Service to record a show, menus and changes in TV volume will not be recorded.
If recording a program with Dolby Digital, the recording will also provide such audio.
When any one of the DVR buttons is pressed, the receiver will display a small matching symbol on the right of the TV screen.
ON-DEMAND RECORDING
- Turn on the receiver and tune it to a channel.
- At the start of a program, press the RECORD button on the remote.
- If you have watched the program from the beginning or up to one hour after it has started, you can still record the entire program. Press REVERSE to rewind to the start of the program, the point at which the channel was changed or up to one hour (whichever comes first) then press RECORD.
- When the program ends, press the remote control STOP button to stop recording.
Important:
On-Demand Recording requires you to manually stop the recording by pressing the STOP button. The program will not stop recording by itself.
If on-demand recording needs room to record a new event, it will record over its oldest "unprotected" recorded event(s) to make room. If every program is protected and there is no more room to record an event, it will not be recorded.
DVR RECORDED EVENTS
Press the DVR LIST button to display the DVR Recorded Events menu.
The DVR Recorded Events menu has:
- A list of recorded events including currently recording programs.
- The approximate room left for recording.
Select any one of the events listed on the DVR menu to open the menu for this event. From this Event menu, you can perform one or more of the following:
- Select the Start option to play back the event
- Select the Start Over option to play back the event from its start
- Select Stop option to stop play back of the event and go back to the last satellite TV channel watched
- Select Resume to play back the event from where it was stopped
- Select Protect to prevent the receiver from recording over the event without your permission. Only one-time events can be protected.
- Select Erase to remove and erase the event.
- Select View to return to satellite programming. If you are recording an event, the receiver tunes to that event's channel.
- Select Cancel to go back to the DVR Recorded Events menu.
During program recording or playback onto the Hard Disk Drive, all DVR functions are available, i.e. Skip Back, Forward, Reverse, Skip Ahead.
Important:
To unprotect an event or to erase a protected event while the receiver is locked, you must enter the System Lock password.
Recording programs with more action takes more space on the Hard Drive.
The recording time available is not exact.
The DVR Recorded Events menu does not list scheduled event recording that has
not actually been recorded. For a listing of scheduled events, use the Event Timer
management menu.

Recording on TV2
Dual-tuner receivers do not have a TV2 VCR timer option. The IR Blaster is built into the front panel of the receiver and will not reach the TV2 location. In order to record from TV2 to a VCR, set an Auto Tune timer on TV2 and set up the VCR’s manual timer to record the event.
Dual-tuner DVR's (522, 622, 625, 722, 942) have the Record Plus feature. When a DVR timer is set on the receiver, it automatically records to the TV2 location (default).
To change:
- Press Menu on the remote.
- Select Preferences.
- Select Record Plus.
- Select the desired TV location and whether the feature will be enabled or disabled.
- Select Done.
Note: If the receiver is in Shared Mode, the timer will interrupt the TV that it is set to record to.
