Name Based Recording allows you to create a timer based on the title and event information of the programming rather than the time the program is aired. Name Based Recording works on the channel the timer is set for. * When creating a DVR Timer, select Protect and lock the System Lock to prevent the recorded event from being deleted.
Name Based Recording
Only events matching the specified program name will be recorded
Time Based Recording
Any program in the specified time frame will be recorded, regardless of name
Both Name and Time Based will record to hard drive, automatically tune to a pre-programmed channel when it starts, or give you an on-screen reminder of a designated program's starting time. Each tuner can record to hard drive. The total number of timers varies by how many timers are set, and how many events there are for each timer.
To find the total number of Events and Timers:
- Press Menu on the remote.
- Select Daily Schedule.
On the bottom right corner of the box, the total number of Events are listed.
- Select Timers from the Daily Schedule screen.
The total number of Timers are listed on the bottom right corner of this box.

- Go to and select DISH Pass.
- Select the Search Method of Exact Match, Title or Info.
- Use the alpha-numeric number pad on the remote or the on-screen keyboard to enter a program title, actor name, or keyword. To search for programs such as "ER" without getting a search result of all programs that include the letters "er", put a space before and after the letters (it's like putting quotes around the letters).
- Go to and select Options.
- Set Protect Event if desired. Select Set Channel and enter the event channel number. Adjust start and end time if desired. Go to and select Done.
- Go to and select Set Priority.
- Left arrow to select event. Use the Move Up option to adjust the timer priority. Go to and select Done.

- EXT: (External) event will record to an external recording device such as a PocketDISH and record to it like a vcr.

Recording on TV2
Dual-tuner receivers do not have a TV2 VCR timer option. The IR Blaster is built into the front panel of the receiver and will not reach the TV2 location. In order to record from TV2 to a VCR, set an Auto Tune timer on TV2 and set up the VCR’s manual timer to record the event.
Dual-tuner DVR's (522, 622, 625, 722, 942) have the Record Plus feature. When a DVR timer is set on the receiver, it automatically records to the TV2 location (default).
To change:
- Press Menu on the remote.
- Select Preferences.
- Select Record Plus.
- Select the desired TV location and whether the feature will be enabled or disabled.
- Select Done.
Note: If the receiver is in Shared Mode, the timer will interrupt the TV that it is set to record to.
Setting the priority of a timer
DVR Priority settings are used to prioritize timers should there be a conflict between timers. The top of the list is the highest priority and takes precedence. The bottom of the list is the lowest priority. A lower priority timer will not fire if there is a higher priority timer at the same time.
- Press DVR twice on the remote (three times for a 625 receiver). The skip timer icon (red x) designates a conflicting timer.
- Go to and select Timers.
- Go to and select Set Priority.
- Go to and select the timer to change.
- Use the Up and Down arrow buttons on the remote or the Move Up and Move Down options on the screen to move the timer priority one at a time. Use the Move to Top and Move to Last options on the screen to make the timer top or last priority.
- Go to and select Done.
Adjusting timers to avoid conflicts
Timers that conflict with each other will display Attention 532. The message may display when switching from Single User Mode to Dual User Mode because the receiver recalculates timers for conflicts.
- Selecting Automatically resolve by priority will allow the receiver to set the priority level of the timer.
The last timer created will have the lowest priority level and will not be recorded if both tuners are being used for other higher priority level timers.
- Selecting Change the priority of this timer will allow you to set the priority level of the timer.
With the new event highlighted in the Daily Schedule screen (the event will display with the skip icon), press Select. Select Restore and then Yes. The new timer will now have a higher priority level than the conflicting timers.
