The Q-Box allows compatible DISH Network satellite receivers to work in a commercial QAM MDU environment. The Q-Box connects in the home between the satellite receiver and the QAM-enabled wall plate, receiving the QAM-modulated signal and remodulating it as QPSK so the satellite receiver can decode it. The satellite receiver needs updated Q-Box-compatible software to be able to work with the Q-Box.
Compatible Receivers
211, 411, 522, 622, 625, 722
Receiver Features Not Supported:
- While in QAM mode, dual tuner receivers will function in single mode with Shared View disabled. The mode button on the front panel of the receiver is disabled. The receiver will still record two live programs at the same time, and use the PIP feature.
- With all compatible receivers, the Customer Support Application is not supported when the receiver is connected with a Q-Box and in QAM mode, and the Customer Support button will be grayed out in DishHOME.
Single Tuner Installation
- Place the Q-Box near the satellite receiver, either on the floor behind an entertainment center, or on a shelf next to the satellite receiver. Q-Box units should never be dangled or hung from a wall plate, or from the back of the satellite receiver or TV.
Dual Tuner Installation
- Place the Q-Box near the satellite receiver, either on the floor behind an entertainment center, or on a shelf next to the satellite receiver. Q-Box units should never be dangled or hung from a wall plate, or from the back of the satellite receiver or TV.
- Each Q-Box will support one satellite tuner. In the case of dual tuner receivers, the incoming QAM signal is split and connected to the Input of the two Q-Box units. Two Q-Box units are required for dual tuner receivers (one for each tuner).
- A CATV splitter (50 MHz -900 MHz)is used. Do not use an L-Band splitter or DP Plus Separator.
FAQ
How is the Q-Box powered?
The Q-Box receives power from the satellite receiver, so there is no need for a power cord or batteries.
How do the Q-Box and receiver communicate?
Communication between the satellite receiver and the Q-Box occurs on the coax cable, using DiSEqC (the communication protocol used by DISH Pro/DISH Pro Plus).
Will software updates download through the Q-Box?
Yes. Both the Q-Box and satellite receiver can receive software updates.
