If you program the TV Mode and no code has been entered into the AUX Mode, the AUX Mode acts like the TV power button.

Look up the Code(s) for the piece of equipment you are trying to address.
Write down the TV code that is programmed into TV Mode, (you will need this later). If you do not already know your TV code, blink out your code by holding the TV button down until all mode lights are lit, release, press # twice, count the blinks.
Program the TV mode to 222.
If the equipment is not listed or a Power Scan is desired click here.
Press and hold the AUX Mode button (about six seconds) until all mode button backlights come on, then release.
Use the number buttons to enter the four digit number corresponding to the equipment. The light will blink off after each digit is entered and then return to a steady light. (If addressing to a TV, use 0 as the first digit. If addressing to a VCR or DVD player, use 1 as the first digit. Amplifiers and Cable Boxes use 2 as the first digit unless the code already has four digits. DVD players can also be addressed to the VCR mode.)
Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
To verify that the code works, press the AUX button. Then try several different functions for that equipment.
Reprogram the TV mode to the code from step 2.
Addressing to the Receiver
Dual-Tuner receivers can have the same remote address for both, but ONLY if one remote is IR and the other is UHF. Note: After this procedure is started and a button is not pressed within 20 seconds, the remote will end the procedure automatically. Simply start over again. If there are multiple UHF receivers in the home, make sure all other receivers are powered off from their front panel to avoid address matching.

Reconfigure Remote
Remove battery cover.
Confirm remote is configurable. Note: if remote label says "IR", it can NOT be reconfigured.
Place thumb nail between the colored piece, above the number, and the body of the remote. Pull down towards the bottom of the remote.
Turn colored piece over to desired format and reinsert until a "snap" is heard.
Replace battery cover.
With the receiver on, press the Info or System Info button on the front panel,
if not present remove the Smart Card and wait 5-10 sec,
if no Smart Card power the receiver off from the front panel and press the up or down arrow button.
System info will appear on screen. (This procedure is not applicable for the DISHPlayer or the DishDVR 721)
Press and hold the SAT button (about six seconds) until all mode button backlights come on, then release.
Use the number buttons to enter a number from 1 to 15. The light will blink off after each digit is entered and then return to a steady light.
Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the SAT mode light flashes three times.
Press the Record button. The number in the Remote Address field should match the one you input.
To verify the code, press and hold the SAT mode button until the mode lights come on. Then press the POUND (#) button twice. The light will flash the address.
Reinsert the Smart Card
Addressing the remote to 222 while in TV, VCR or AUX mode, readdresses the remote back to the default which is to the receiver.
Addressing to Other Equipment

Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
To verify the code works, press the mode button. Then try several different functions for that equipment. Some codes may provide partial function, or respond differently than the button's titled function. Try the other codes listed for that device until you find one that offers more complete functionality.
Store the remote code for future use.
If the remote still does not operate the device, perform the Power Scan. If still no operation, it may not be compatible with that piece of equipment.
Put the remote back in satellite mode by pressing and releasing the SAT mode button.
After-Market Remotes
You may have bought an 811 or 921 receiver and are installing them in a home theater environment. To simplify the install you may use a single non-DISH Network remote control for all of your components. These infra-red (IR) remotes are sometimes referred to as a "learning" remote because of how they are programmed.
How do you control an 811 or 921 receiver with a NON DISH Network, IR remote? When in SAT Mode, the 8.0 UHF Pro remote that comes with both of these receivers only transmits UHF Pro signals (not IR signals) to control the receiver. Because of this, the 8.0 UHF Pro remote cannot be used to program or teach these IR-based after-market remote controls.
811 Steps
You may need two discrete buttons to program other universal remote controls for SD and HD. Because the remote does not have two free buttons, this feature had to be implemented using a sequence of two buttons. By pressing the SD/HD button and then pressing the PAGE UP button, the receiver will go to the HD mode regardless of the start mode. Similarly, press the SD/HD button and then the PAGE DOWN button it will change the receiver mode to SD.

Aim both remotes at the receiver. The receiver will use the IR Blaster to echo that function for the learning remote to pick up. Press a button on the DISH remote and operate the learning remote according to its' instructions. Note: Any button on the DISH remote that is not used with your DISH receiver, will not teach the learning remote.
After you have finished programming your learning remote, you will need to press a front panel button on the receiver, the # button or leave the receiver alone for at least three minutes to exit this mode.
You may also use one of the following IR transmitting remotes:
1.5 IR or IR/UHF Blue Button
Platinum or Platinum Plus
3.0 IR or 3.1 IR
5.0 IR
921 Steps

With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button backlights illuminate (about 3 seconds), then release.
For AUX mode Power Scan ONLY: press 0 for a TV, press 1 for a VCR/DVD, press 2 for any other device, then press *.
Press and release the Power button.
Press the Up button once per second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
To verify the code works try several different functions for that equipment.
Power Scan Tips
When performing the Power Scan, periodically check that the mode light is not lit when the channel up/down button is pressed. This will ensure you are doing the Power Scan correctly.
The Power Scan will start with the last code you put in. If the last code you put in was 656 it will then go to 657 when pressing the Up button when performing a Power Scan.
If there is no code programmed into the remote at the time of the Power Scan then it will start with 000 regardless of the type of remote.
Whether the scan then proceeds ascending or descending from this number depends on whether you scan with the Up or Down buttons on the remote. For consistency, and to most rapidly go through the most common codes more quickly, you should use the up button exclusively, unless you pass a functional code by accident and wish to toggle back down to it.
Manually turn on the device you are scanning for before you begin the Power Scan.
If the scan powers the device off, but does not give full function re-enter scan mode and continue (example: there are dozens of RCA TV codes).
Remember not all devices are supported, and many will only give you basic functions.
If performing the Power Scan correctly then it should not take more than six minutes. On average you should find the correct code within two minutes.
The Mode button will flash rapidly when you reach the end of the codes.
If you are performing a Power Scan in AUX mode, the steps you should follow are below:
Hold down the AUX button so all buttons light up
Enter in prefix 0 = TV, 1 = VCR, 2 = AUX device
Press the asterisk button "*"
Power then press the Up/Down like you would with a regular power scan.
How to Check the Device Codes

Press and hold the mode button for the device, for about three seconds. When all the other mode button backlights come on, release the mode button.
Press the POUND (#) button twice. The mode light flashes the number for each digit of the device code, with a pause between the groups of flashes. A quick flash is for zero.
For example, the mode light flashes five times, pauses, flashes seven times, pauses, and flashes once quickly for the 570 code.
In Limited Mode, the TV code "570" would become "5701" for limited mode; likewise, the 2nd VCR code "1559" would become "15591" for limited mode.
