Addressing in AUX Mode

If you program the TV Mode and no code has been entered into the AUX Mode, the AUX Mode acts like the TV power button.

Note: After this procedure is started and a button is not pressed within 20 seconds, the remote will end the procedure automatically. Simply start over again.
  1. Verify the remote is a DISH Network universal remote. Look for the DISH Network logo on the bottom of the remote and Mode buttons or lights at the top. Why?
  2. Look up the Code(s) for the piece of equipment you are trying to address.
  3. Write down the TV code that is programmed into TV Mode, (you will need this later). If you do not already know your TV code, blink out the code by holding the TV button down until all mode lights are lit, release, press # twice, count the blinks out loud.
  4. Program the TV mode to 222.
  5. If the equipment is not listed or a Power Scan is desired click here.
  6. Press and hold the AUX Mode button (about six seconds) until all mode button backlights come on, then release.
  7. Use the number buttons to enter the four digit number corresponding to the equipment. The light will blink off after each digit is entered and then return to a steady light. (If addressing to a TV, use 0 as the first digit. If addressing to a VCR or DVD player, use 1 as the first digit. Amplifiers and Cable Boxes use 2 as the first digit unless the code already has four digits. DVD players can also be addressed to the VCR mode.)
  8. Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
  9. To verify the code works, press the AUX button. Then try several different functions for that equipment.
  10. Reprogram the TV mode to the code from step 2.

Addressing to the Receiver

Dual-Tuner receivers can have the same remote address for both.
Note: After this procedure is started and a button is not pressed within 20 seconds, the remote will end the procedure automatically. Simply start over again. If there are multiple UHF receivers in the home, make sure all other receivers are powered off from their front panel to avoid address matching.
  1. Verify the remote is a DISH Network remote. Look for the DISH Network logo on the bottom of the remote and Mode buttons or lights at the top. Why?
  2. If using a Indicator Tab remote (3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 5.2, 5.3, 6.0, 6.2, 6.3) verify the Indicator Tab is configured for the correct TV1/TV2 operation. How to?
  3. With the receiver on, press the Info or System Info button on the front panel,
if not present remove the Smart Card and wait 5-10 sec,
if no Smart Card power the receiver off from the front panel and press the up or down arrow button.
System info will appear on screen. (This procedure is not applicable for the DISHPlayer or the DishDVR 721)
  4. Press and hold the SAT button (about six seconds) until all mode button backlights come on, then release.
  5. Use the number buttons to enter a number from 1 to 15. The light will blink off after each digit is entered and then return to a steady light.
  6. Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the SAT mode light flashes three times.
  7. Press the Record button. The number in the Remote Address field should match the one you input.
  8. To verify the code, press and hold the SAT mode button until the mode lights come on. Then press the POUND (#) button twice. The light will flash the address.
  9. Reinsert the Smart Card.

Addressing the remote to 222 while in TV, VCR or AUX mode, readdresses the remote back to the default which is to the receiver.

Addressing to Other Equipment

If you program the TV Mode and no code has been entered into the AUX Mode, the AUX Mode acts like the TV power button.

Note: After this procedure is started and a button is not pressed within 20 seconds, the remote will end the procedure automatically. Simply start over again.

  1. Verify the remote is a DISH Network remote. Look for the DISH Network logo on the bottom of the remote and Mode buttons or lights at the top. Why?
  2. Look up the Code(s) for the piece of equipment you are trying to address. If the equipment is not listed or a Power Scan is desired click here.
  3. Press and hold the correct Mode button (about six seconds) until all mode button backlights come on, then release.
  4. Use the number buttons to enter the three digit number (four digit for AUX mode) corresponding to the equipment. The light will blink off after each digit is entered and then return to a steady light.
  5. Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
  6. To verify the code works, press the mode button. Then try several different functions for that equipment. Some codes may provide partial function, or respond differently than the button's titled function. Try the other codes listed for that device until you find one that offers more complete functionality.
  7. Store the remote code for future use.
  8. If the remote still does not operate the device, perform the Power Scan. If still no operation, it may not be compatible with that piece of equipment.
After-Market Remotes
You may have bought an 811 or 921 receiver to install in a home theater environment. To simplify the install you may use a single non-DISH Network remote control for all of your components. These infra-red (IR) remotes are sometimes referred to as a "learning" remote because of how they are programmed.

How do you control an 811 or 921 receiver with a NON DISH Network, IR remote? When in SAT Mode, the 8.0 UHF Pro remote that comes with both of these receivers only transmits UHF Pro signals (not IR signals) to control the receiver. Because of this, the 8.0 UHF Pro remote cannot be used to program or teach these IR-based after-market remote controls.

811
  1. Menu : System Setup : Diagnostics : Teach Remote : Yes
  2. Aim both remotes at the receiver. The receiver will use the IR Blaster to echo that function for the learning remote to pick up. Press a button on the DISH remote and operate the learning remote according to its' instructions. Note: Any button on the DISH remote that is not used with your DISH receiver, will not teach the learning remote.
  3. After you have finished programming your learning remote, you will need to press a front panel button on the receiver or leave the receiver alone for at least three minutes to exit this mode.
You may also use one of the following IR transmitting remotes:

  2. With the desired equipment on, press and hold the correct Mode button until all mode button backlights illuminate (about 3 seconds), then release.
  3. For AUX mode Power Scan ONLY: press 0 for a TV, press 1 for a VCR/DVD, press 2 for any other device, then press *.
  4. Press and release the Power button.
  5. Press the Up button once per second while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. If the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.
  6. Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.
  7. To verify the code works try several different functions for that equipment.

  8. Power Scan Tips

How to Check the Device Codes

  1. Verify the remote is a DISH Network remote. Look for the DISH Network logo on the bottom of the remote and Mode buttons or lights at the top. Why?
  2. Press and hold the mode button for the device, for about three seconds. When all the other mode button backlights come on, release the mode button.
  3. Press the POUND (#) button twice. The mode light flashes the number for each digit of the device code, with a pause between the groups of flashes. A quick flash is for zero.
For example, the mode light flashes five times, pauses, flashes seven times, pauses, and flashes once quickly for the 570 code.
In Limited Mode, the TV code "570" would become "5701" for limited mode; likewise, the 2nd VCR code "1559" would become "15591" for limited mode.
How To Use the Recover Button:

  1. Be sure all necessary devices (satellite receiver, TV, and VCR if installed) are powered on.
  2. Press and hold the Recover button until all the mode lights illuminate. Release the button.
  3. After all mode lights flash three times, slowly press the Recover button to cycle through the TV (and if applicable VCR) inputs until you see the System Information screen or video.
  4. If System Info screen is present, press SELECT and all four mode lights will flash twice. The remote will be put in SAT mode and you will be returned to your previously viewed satellite program.
NOTE: For TV2, recover will send the preset TV2 Modulated channel to the TV unless a VCR is programmed. The VCR will receive the preset modulated channel and the TV will receive the standard inputs.
For TV1, the recover feature will only cycle through as many video inputs as is allowable by the programmed manufacturer's code up to a maximum of three.

Recover Feature Limitations Programming Recover for TV2:
For 222, 322, 522, 622, 625, 722, 942 TV2 remotes, the recover feature channel is programmed separately from the code that controls the TV.
To SET (or change) the desired TV2 channel
  1. Program Remote Control 2 to control the TV using the appropriate manufactures code.
  2. Press and hold the TV mode button until all the other mode buttons light up, and then let go of the button. The TV mode button flashes.
  3. Press the star button (*) and enter the modulated channel (21-125) using three digits. For example, to set channel 25, input: *025.
  4. Press the pound (#) button. The TV mode button flashes three times.
  5. Store the remote code for future use.
To RETURN TV2 remote Recover feature to the default setting (Ch. 3, Ch. 4, VID1, ect.)
  1. Press and hold the TV mode button until all the other mode buttons light up, and then let go of the button. The TV mode button flashes.
  2. Press the Star (*) button.
  3. Enter the 0-0-0.
  4. Press the Pound (#) button. The TV mode button flashes three times.
NOTE: Press any remote control button other than the Recover button to end the procedure. If the procedure times out (no button presses in 30 seconds) or after the last command in the recover process is sent, the recover process will end.

Limited Mode How To

Limited Mode is a feature offered with some of our remotes. It allows you to have only limited functionality with your TV or VCR, which will assist the you in preventing common audio / video issues. This limited mode can be applied to the TV and VCR modes of the remote, as well as the AUX mode for a 2nd TV or 2nd VCR code. However, it cannot be applied to AUX codes for stereo amplifiers or cable boxes.

For programming a TV (or a 2nd TV in AUX mode), limited mode will only allow the power, mute, and volume buttons to function in that mode. Likewise, for programming a VCR (or a 2nd VCR in AUX mode), limited mode will only allow the power and VCR functions to work in that mode.

Remotes that support limited mode include: To enable limited mode on a remote and mode that supports it, simply add a "1" to the end of the code, increasing the code's length by one digit. For example, the TV code "560" would become "5601" for limited mode; likewise, the 2nd VCR code "1559" would become "15591" for limited mode.

To escape limited mode, simply reprogram the mode with the original code. If you do not remember the original code, check (blink out) the code on the remote, and disregard the "1" at the end. For example, if the VCR code blinks out "6-2-3-1", then programming the VCR mode to "623" will disable limited mode for the VCR mode.

Easy Limited Mode How To for the 6.2 and 6.3 Remote

  1. Program the remote to operate the device (for example, a TV), using the codes or Power Scan.
  2. Press and hold the mode button (for example, TV Mode for a TV), until all the mode buttons light up, then release.
  3. Press PAGE UP on the remote control.
  4. Press # (pound) on the remote control.
Remotes that support Easy Limited mode include: To turn Limited Mode off, use the same procedure but press PAGE DOWN instead of PAGE UP on the remote.
This procedure works for TV, VCR, and AUX modes.

Dual UHF Pro How To

  1. Does the installation require two UHF Pro remotes?
  2. Yes

Discrete Power On/Off

Some after-market, universal remote controls need two discrete buttons for Power On and Power Off. Because the remote does not have two free buttons, this feature had to be implemented using a sequence of buttons.
  1. Press and hold the SAT button at the top of the remote until all mode button backlights illuminate (about 3 seconds), then release.
  2. While the SAT mode light blinks, press and release the large satellite Power button.
  3. Press Volume Up for discrete power on. Press Volume Down for discrete power off.
  4. Press the Select button to exit.
