Electronic Program Guide (EPG) Functions
Extended Browse Feature Explain
Press the Browse button once to see the present and next program schedule. Press the right arrow button to go further into the stored program schedule. Press the Info button for extended program information.
Browse-to-PIP: For models with the PIP feature in Single Mode, press Browse and scroll to another channel while remaining in the current time. Press the PIP button on the remote to open the PIP window and display the browsed channel.
Channel Surfing Enhancements Explain
You can select to skip "DISH HOME" loading if you pass by channel 100. A loading confirmation option appears when you select this channel. While channeling up/down, the receiver will skip the channels that require another dish if you do not have one.
DishHOME Interactive TV Explain
DishHOME is the way to instantly access all that DishHOME Interactive TV has to offer. By accessing DishHOME from channel 100 or in the Main Menu, the best of interactive television is at your fingertips.
Electronic Program Guide Explain
7 to 9-day EEPG stored on the hard drive.

When in the EPG, use "skip forward" and "skip backward" keys to go ahead or back 24 hours.
While watching or recording a DVR event, you can still view it in ¼ screen in the EPG.
DVR features (pause) work in EPG when selected prior to entering the EPG.
Press Record while in EPG to record to end of scheduled event.
Record continues until you press the stop button if NOT on the EPG and press the Record button.

HD Channel Mapdown Explain
HD Mapdown is a default feature that can be disabled if desired. Similar to Local Channels, HD channels will be mapped down in the EPG lined up with the SD channel. For example, ESPN HD will display as 140 ESPHD with the HD logo, and standard ESPN will display as 140 ESPN without a logo. When both SD and HD channels are available, entering a channel number on the remote control automatically selects the HD channel.

Local DMA Channel Mapping Explain
Local DMA Channels are in the same channel number range as their off-air signal.
Local Link Explain
The Local Link feature allows a customer to view their local broadcast or cable channels via the satellite receiver. Once the channels are set up, they can select and view those channels through the EPG or the Browse Banner; that is, the same way as you would any of the satellite channels.
Off-air Channel Scan Explain
Scan or manually enter a digital over-the-air channel up to 99 when the receiver is set to "Off Air" in the HDTV setup menu
Program Search Explain
When customers enter the search function the title of the program they are currently viewing will appear in the search text field. Customers have the option to search by program title or for key words within the extended program information and description.
- Use the # (pound) key. The current program's title will be filled in. You can use that to search or clear it and type in another name.
- Go to Menu, Themes & Search, Search. The keywords can be entered with your remote control alpha-numeric keys (cell-phone style) or using the right/left/up/down blue arrow buttons and Select to access the on-screen keyboard.

- Alternative language and Descriptive Video support Explain
Descriptive Video is an audio narration, which provides the listening audience with descriptions of scenes, settings, costumes and body language in the natural pauses of dialogue or songs. It is being offered as a service for the visually impaired.
- Caller ID with history Explain
Displays caller information on the TV screen. Must have a phone line plugged in and a subscription with the local telephone company. Will show on a VCR tape if information pops up while recording.
- Closed Caption support (not available on some HD content)
- Customer Support Application Explain
The Customer Support Application is an interactive tool that allows you to add channels, view billing statements, make a payment, read frequently asked questions, troubleshoot issues, and read important information. This application is accessed through DishHOME.

Only events matching the specified program name will be recorded
Time Based Recording
Any program in the specified time frame will be recorded, regardless of name
Both Name and Time Based will record to hard drive, automatically tune to a pre-programmed channel when it starts, or give you an on-screen reminder of a designated program's starting time. Each tuner can record to hard drive. The total number of timers varies by how many timers are set, and how many events there are for each timer.
To find the total number of Events and Timers:
- Press Menu on the remote.
- Select Daily Schedule.
On the bottom right corner of the box, the total number of Events are listed.
- Select Timers from the Daily Schedule screen.

- DVOD (DISH Video on Demand) Explain
DVOD are movies that have been downloaded to the hard drive for immediate rental. Movies on Demand CANNOT be saved onto the hard drive. If Parental Locks have been set, the password will need to be entered in order to access Movies on Demand.
- Favorites Lists Explain
4 user defined lists for each tuner (8 total), capable of storing a combined total of 1500 channels. All Sub, All HD, and All Chan lists.
- Hide Lock Channels Explain
The Hide Lock Channels option allows customers to hide locked channels from the EPG.
- Multimedia Explain
Transfer images from another device via USB or transfer video and audio to a PocketDISH from the receiver.

DISH Network DVR
- DishONLINE movie downloads Explain
DishONLINE allows you to use your receiver’s Ethernet connection to download programs. These programs can be saved to your receiver’s hard drive for future viewing.
You can use DishONLINE in three ways:
- Rent: Keep a program for a limited time before the system erases it.
- Purchase: Keep a downloaded program indefinitely.
- Free: A program is free to download and keep indefinitely.
- Free for a Limited Time: Keep a free program for a limited time before the system erases it.
- Dual/Single Viewing Modes Explain
Dual Mode:
- (2) Independent Tuners: watch different programming on TV1 and TV2. PIP not available. Dual Mode, Shared View Disabled. Use as 2 independent DVR receivers
- Both users can access the hard drive to record or view recorded programs; both users can access the same program at the same time and not interfere with the other viewer.
Single Mode:
- (2) Tuners: watch same programming on TV1 and TV2. TV2 remote does operate receiver. Single Mode, Shared View Enabled. PIP available. Use as 1 receiver to not allow kids to watch something different.
- (2) Tuners: watch programming on TV1 and black screen with screensaver on TV2. TV2 remote does not operate receiver. Single Mode, Shared View Disabled. PIP available. Use as 1 receiver to prevent kids from watching anything at all.
- DVR Grouping Explain
Events with the same title are grouped together in easy to find folders.
- DVR Recording Explain
- Record up to 200 hours of standard-definition OR up to 30 hours of high-definition programming
- Pause Live TV (up to one hour on each tuner)
- 100% digital audio and video recording to the hard drive
- DVR enhanced Automatic and Manual Event Timers - programs the satellite to record directly to the hard drive, automatically tune to a program at a designated time for viewing

- External Hard Drive Support
Explain
DVR content can be transferred to an external hard drive to free up space on the receiver’s internal hard drive. This feature allows for storage and playback of DVR content only. It requires a one-time External Hard Drive Activation Fee and a USB 2.0 external hard drive that is between 50GB and 1TB.
- Enhanced Timer and DVR Management Explain
Sort DVR events by date or name. Sort Timers by event name or start date/time. Customers can create a timer event on the currently viewed program. Timer edit while the timer is active. Protect: prevents recording over event when hard drive is full, when Locks set must enter password to delete
- External Hard Drive Support
Explain

- Multi-speed Slow Motion and Frame-by-Frame Explain
Slow Motion (done while in "pause"), Slow Fwd ¼ and 1/15th speed in addition to Standard Fast FWD 4X, 15X, 60X, and 300X, Slow Reverse 1X and ¼ in addition to Standard Reverse 4X, 15X, 60X, and 300X, Frame-by-frame advance and back using the "skip ahead" and "skip back" buttons while in pause. Skip forward (30 seconds), skip back (10 seconds).
- Record Plus Explain
Record Plus from the Preferences menu allows the user to set a TV preference for future recordings. If your preferred TV is busy, recordings will be sent to the other TV. Activation turns this feature on and off. Record Preference sets what TV the recording will be sent to.
Example: Activation Enable, Record Preference TV2; when the DVR recording starts TV2 will be interrupted and display and record the event. The TV2 user can cancel the recording.
Note: Record Plus is not available in Single User mode.
- Search function Explain
The DVR Search function allows you to perform a keyword search to find a program listing based on an event title, the name of an actor/actress or a specific word. The total number of searches that the search history can store is 30.
HDTV/SDTV
- Delivers high-definition and standard-definition programming. Explain
High-definition content can be viewed using HD outputs (TV1), or HD content is automatically down-converted for viewing using SD outputs.
Standard-definition can be viewed using SD outputs, or SD content is automatically upconverted for viewing using HD outputs.
Both HD outputs are not active at one time.

Allows you to display programming on high-definition television monitors.
- Five methods to adapt a non-HD 4:3 image to a 16:9 HDTV screen. Explain
Manipulates a 4:3 image to fill the screen simply by toggling the asterisk button on the remote control.
- Zoom - Proportionally expands the non 16:9 image horizontally and vertically to fill the 16:9 screen.
- Stretch - Expands the non 16:9 image horizontally to fill the 16:9 screen
- Partial Zoom - A hybrid of the Zoom and Stretch modes that minimizes cropping effect of the zoom mode and image distortion of the stretch mode.

For reception of off-air digital broadcasts (including high-definition). Disabled unless the receiver has activated DISH Network programming. Can record digital off-air programming to the hard drive. Only TV1 can view live off-air programming. Both TV1 and TV2 can view recorded off-air programming.

If the remote control batteries are low, a small "Low Battery" text indicator appears in the view banner whenever the view banner is displayed.
- MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 technology Explain
Method to compress digital signals. This way, the amount of information that has to be sent decreases. MPEG is a compression method. Thanks to this compression, it is possible to combine several channels onto one satellite transponder.
- Picture-In-Picture (PIP) Explain
PIP allows you to watch two different programs at the same time when in Single Mode.
- PIP - to open a small window; second press to enlarge window; third press puts the pictures side by side, fourth press to close window
- PIP Swap - to move program in small window to full screen window. Channel changes, DVR functions, etc. can only be made in full screen window.
- PIP Position - to move the window (either size) into one of nine locations on the screen. Press for immediate side-by-side PIP.
- Pocket DISH support Explain
Pocket DISH is a portable media recorder that allows customers to quickly transfer their favorite program from select USB-enabled satellite receivers, the DISH PLAYER-DVR 942 being the first. There will be three different units: 2.2" with 20GB hard drive, 4" with 30GB hard drive and 7" with 40GB hard drive. You can record DISH Network DVR content, store and watch JPEG images, listen to stored MP3 audio, and store and view internet content.

- Standby Reset Explain
Standby Reset helps to reduce problems by clearing errors encountered over the previous 24 hours.
The user cannot enable/disable this feature. The Reset will only occur if box is manually placed into standby for at least 10 minutes. It will attempt to reset at 2am, 3am, and 4am nightly (it will only reset one time-once it resets it will stop trying until the following night) The box will not reset if there is a timer that interferes, or is scheduled within 30 minutes of the attempt to reset. The box will not interrupt a download in order to reset. The reset will be transparent to the user.
