Electronic Program Guide
- DishHOME Interactive TV Explain
DishHOME is the way to instantly access all that DishHOME Interactive TV has to offer. By accessing DishHOME from channel 100 or in the Main Menu, the best of interactive television is at your fingertips.
- Electronic Program Guide Explain
7 to 9-day EEPG stored on the hard drive.
Two Electronic Program Guide display options, Full-Screen EPG and Picture-in-Guide EPG.
Three viewing options, Standard, Enhanced large text and Extended widescreen 3-hour.
Page-At-A-Time Scrolling in EPG.
When in the EPG, use "skip forward" and "skip backward" keys to go ahead or back 24 hours.
While watching or recording a DVR event, you can still view it in ¼ screen in the EPG.
DVR features (pause) work in EPG when selected prior to entering the EPG.
Press Record while in EPG to record to end of scheduled event.
Record continues until you press the stop button if NOT on the EPG and press the Record button.

Local DMA Channels are in the same channel number range as their off-air signal.
- Local Link Explain
The Local Link feature allows a customer to view their local broadcast or cable channels via the satellite receiver. Once the channels are set up, they can select and view those channels through the EPG or the Browse Banner; that is, the same way as you would any of the satellite channels.

Scan or manually enter a digital over-the-air channel up to 99 when the receiver is set to "Off Air" in the HDTV setup menu
- Program Search Explain
When customers enter the search function the title of the program they are currently viewing will appear in the search text field. Customers have the option to search by program title or for key words within the extended program information and description.
- Use the # (pound) key. The current program's title will be filled in. You can use that to search or clear it and type in another name.
- Go to Menu, Themes & Search, Search. The keywords can be entered with your remote control alpha-numeric keys (cell-phone style) or using the right/left/up/down blue arrow buttons and Select to access the on-screen keyboard.

- Alternative language and Descriptive Video support Explain
Descriptive Video is an audio narration, which provides the listening audience with descriptions of scenes, settings, costumes and body language in the natural pauses of dialogue or songs. It is being offered as a service for the visually impaired.
- Caller ID with history Explain
Displays caller information on the TV screen. Must have a phone line plugged in and a subscription with the local telephone company. Will show on a VCR tape if information pops up while recording.

The Customer Support Application is an interactive tool that allows you to add channels, view billing statements, make a payment, read frequently asked questions, troubleshoot issues, and read important information. This application is accessed through DishHOME.

Only events matching the specified program name will be recorded
Time Based Recording
Any program in the specified time frame will be recorded, regardless of name
Both Name and Time Based will record to hard drive, automatically tune to a pre-programmed channel when it starts, or give you an on-screen reminder of a designated program's starting time. Each tuner can record to hard drive. The total number of timers varies by how many timers are set, and how many events there are for each timer.
To find the total number of Events and Timers:
- Press Menu on the remote.
- Select Daily Schedule.
On the bottom right corner of the box, the total number of Events are listed.
- Select Timers from the Daily Schedule screen.

- DVOD (DISH Video on Demand) Explain
DVOD are movies that have been downloaded to the hard drive for immediate rental. Movies on Demand CANNOT be saved onto the hard drive. If Parental Locks have been set, the password will need to be entered in order to access Movies on Demand.

4 user defined lists for each tuner (8 total), capable of storing a combined total of 1500 channels. All Sub, All HD, and All Chan lists.

- External Hard Drive Support
Explain
DVR content can be transferred to an external hard drive to free up space on the receiver’s internal hard drive. This feature allows for storage and playback of DVR content only. It requires a one-time External Hard Drive Activation Fee and a USB 2.0 external hard drive that is between 50GB and 1TB.
- Enhanced Timer and DVR Management Explain
Sort DVR events by date or name. Sort Timers by event name or start date/time. Customers can create a timer event on the currently viewed program. Timer edit while the timer is active. Protect: prevents recording over event when hard drive is full, when Locks set must enter password to delete.
- Multi-speed Slow Motion and Frame-by-Frame Explain
Slow Motion (done while in "pause"), Slow Fwd ¼ and 1/15th speed in addition to Standard Fast FWD 4X, 15X, 60X, and 300X, Slow Reverse 1X and ¼ in addition to Standard Reverse 4X, 15X, 60X, and 300X, Frame-by-frame advance and back using the "skip ahead" and "skip back" buttons while in pause. Skip forward (30 seconds), skip back (10 seconds).

HDTV/SDTV

High-definition content can be viewed using HD outputs, or HD content is automatically down-converted for viewing using SD outputs.
Standard-definition can be viewed using SD outputs, or SD content is automatically upconverted for viewing using HD outputs.
Both HD outputs are not active at one time.

Manipulates a 4:3 image to fill the screen simply by toggling the asterisk button on the remote control.

- Stretch - Expands the non 16:9 image horizontally to fill the 16:9 screen

For reception of off-air digital broadcasts (including high-definition). Disabled unless the receiver has activated DISH Network programming. Can record digital off-air programming to the hard drive.

Outputs 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. SD is upconverted.
Our receivers do not support 1080p. Instead, use 720p for fast action, or 1080i for other programming.

- DishCOMM Explain
DishCOMM allows supported receivers to communicate with each other through the electrical plug and house AC wiring and be able to see if one of them has a phone line connection. When it is time to download PPV purchases, the receiver will route the information to the phone line connected receiver to dial out and report. This communication will include information of which receiver the purchases originated. One DishCOMM receiver must be connected to a phone line.

If the remote control batteries are low, a small "Low Battery" text indicator appears in the view banner whenever the view banner is displayed.

Method to compress digital signals. This way, the amount of information that has to be sent decreases. MPEG is a compression method. Thanks to this compression, it is possible to combine several channels onto one satellite transponder.

Pocket DISH is a portable media recorder that allows customers to quickly transfer their favorite program from select USB-enabled satellite receivers, the DISH PLAYER-DVR 942 being the first. There will be three different units: 2.2" with 20GB hard drive, 4" with 30GB hard drive and 7" with 40GB hard drive. You can record DISH Network DVR content, store and watch JPEG images, listen to stored MP3 audio, and store and view internet content.

Software Version Control will allow some receivers to self-maintain their software version.
- Standby Reset Explain
Standby Reset helps to reduce problems by clearing errors encountered over the previous 24 hours.
The user cannot enable/disable this feature. The Reset will only occur if box is manually placed into standby for at least 10 minutes. It will attempt to reset at 2am, 3am, and 4am nightly (it will only reset one time-once it resets it will stop trying until the following night) The box will not reset if there is a timer that interferes, or is scheduled within 30 minutes of the attempt to reset. The box will not interrupt a download in order to reset. The reset will be transparent to the user.
