Description
DishCOMM allows supported receivers to communicate with each other through the electrical plug and house AC wiring and be able to see if one of them has a phone line connection. When it is time to download PPV purchases, the receiver will route the information to the phone line connected receiver to dial out and report. This communication will include information of which receiver the purchases originated. One DishCOMM receiver must be connected to a phone line.
Installation
- When using a surge protector, verify the surge protector is approved for use with HomePlug devices, and plugged into the HomePlug outlet on the protector.
- As with all receivers, do not plug into an outlet powered by a light switch.
- Avoid plugging DishCOMM equipment into Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) outlets. This may cause interference with the DishCOMM system.
- When sharing another receiver's modem, Caller ID must be enabled on both receivers in order to have Caller ID appear on the receiver that is not connected to a phone line.
- Do not use non-HomePlug power line networking equipment, such as Phonex wireless devices in installations where DishCOMM is used.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does DishCOMM eliminate all of the phone line fees?
As long as there is a phone line connected to one of the DishCOMM compatible receivers the phone line fee will not be charged.
Does DishCOMM cause a security issue with the data since it is all on the power lines?
No. Creating a DishCOMM Network helps to ensure the data is secure since only devices that are part of the network can communicate on the network. HomePlug also includes its own encryption to ensure data security.
Will the data be sent out to the neighborhood?
No. DishCOMM and HomePlug communications are generally unable to pass over the home’s AC meter or power transformer and enter the neighborhood power wiring. In a multiple dwelling unit, such as an apartment, where the AC meter may be shared, security of data is maintained through the creation of a DishCOMM Network and the security that is built in to HomePlug technology.
Does DishCOMM increase the power usage of the home?
No. DishCOMM uses the existing device’s power to function.
Will DishCOMM interfere with the Meter Reader’s equipment for recording my power usage?
No.
Where can an approved HomePlug surge protector be purchased?
Most electronics retailers or stores that sell other HomePlug equipment.
