With an Enhanced HD Module upgrade, the Model 6000 satellite receiver can receive more High Definition programming using new state-of-the-art satellite technology. The module installs into any Model 6000 DISH Network satellite receiver. The Model 6000u already has the Enhanced HD Module installed in it.
The Enhanced HD Module uses 8PSK (8 Phase Shift Keying) to more efficiently modulate satellite signals. Not to be confused with compression, this more efficient modulation method allows DISH Network to greatly increase our HDTV channels while using the same amount of bandwidth.

What are some other names for the Enhanced HD Module?
The Enhanced HD Module is also known as the 8PSK Module or the HDSTU Module. 8PSK is the technology used and this is the way it is noted in the System Information screen of the receiver. The manual that is sent with the Enhanced HD Module calls it the HDSTU Module.
Can both the 8VSB and the Enhanced HD Module be use in the model 6000 receiver at the same time?
Yes, both modules can be used at the same time. The two modules have completely different functions. The 8VSB Module is for off-air HD programming. The Enhanced HD Module is for satellite HD programming.
Do the model 6000 and 6000u receivers say the same thing in the System Information screen?
It depends on the modules that are installed. The models 6000u as well as the HD 6000 from RCA, already have the Enhanced HD Module installed in it. If the model 6000 has an Enhanced HD Module installed, it will say the same thing in the System Information screen, 6000/8PSK.
Can I install the Enhanced HD Module into Module 2 Port on the Model 6000 receiver?
No, the Enhanced HD Module must be installed into Module 1 Port on the Model 6000 receiver. Severe damage to the receiver or module can occur if you attempt to install the module in any other module port.
Can I reuse the Accessory Jack after I complete the installation of the Enhanced HD Module?
No, to comply with FCC regulations, DO NOT use the Accessory Jack after installing the module. Use the adhesive patch we provided, to cover the port.
Should I clean the gold-colored pins on the Enhanced HD Module before installing it?
No, if there is dust or oil on these pins where it will get into the receiver port, the module and receiver may not work properly. The pins are clean and do not need any additional preparation before being used.
The Enhanced HD Module seems to have seated well, do I need to secure it with the screws I removed?
Yes, failure to use and fully tighten the screws could result in improper operation of the module.
Do I reconnect the Satellite In cable back to the receiver or to the Enhanced HD Module?
Once the module is installed, the Satellite In connection on the back of the receiver is no longer used. The cable from the dish will now connect to the Satellite In connection on the Enhanced HD Module.
- Press the Menu button on the remote. Go to System Setup, Installation, and System Information. On the System Info screen, verify the receiver's software matches the software on the Receiver home page on the website.
If yes, continue to the next step. If no, power off the receiver for 15 minutes to allow the receiver to take a software download and continue with the following steps.
- Unplug the receiver's power cord.
- Disconnect the cable from the Satellite In jack on the receiver's back panel.
- If any cable is connected to the Accessory Jack on the receiver's rear panel, disconnect the cable. Cover the Accessory Jack with the adhesive patch we provided in the kit, it can not be used with this module.
- Remove the cover marked Module 1 Port from the right side of the receiver's back panel. Keep the cover screws to use in attaching the module. Store the cover.
- Plug the module into the port, so the Satellite In 13/18 V = 400mA wording is right side up, and attach the module with the two cover screws.
- Reconnect the cable to the Satellite In connection on the back of the module.
- Plug in the receiver's power cord.

Verifying Module Installation
- Make sure the receiver is ON.
- Press the System Information button on the remote control to display the Important System Information menu.
- Verify that the top line of the system information reads Model 6000\8PSK or Model 6000\8VSB\8PSK. If the information is correct, the module is working properly in the receiver.
- Contact a participating retailer to purchase the module.
- Contact a local retailer to purchase a model 811.
New to HDTV
- Contact a local retailer to purchase a model 811.
Symptom
Missing DISH Network HD channels, signal loss.
Cause
Improper installation is the most common problem with the Enhanced HD Module. It must be seated fully in the correct port for proper installation. A malfunctioning module can also cause missing channels or signal loss.
Prevention
Properly connect the HD Module to the receiver and secure with the screws.
Troubleshooting
- Press the Menu button on the remote. Go to System Setup, Installation, and System Information. On the System Info screen, verify the receiver's software matches the software on the Receiver home page on the website.
If no, power off the receiver for 15 minutes to allow the receiver to take a software download.
If yes, continue to the next step.
- Turn the receiver off.
- Unplug the receiver's power cord.
- Disconnect the cable from the Satellite In on the module's connection.
- Verify that the module is inserted fully and that the screws are securely tightened.
- Reconnect the cable to the Satellite In on the module connection.
- Plug in the receiver's power cord.
- Power the receiver on.
- Press the System Information button on the remote control to display the Important System Information menu.
- Verify that the top line of the system information reads Model 6000\8PSK or Model 6000\8VSB\8PSK. If the information in correct, the module is working properly in the receiver.
- If 8PSK is still not present on the screen, unplug the receiver and disconnect the cable from the Satellite In connector on the receiver's back panel.
- Remove the two screws on the bottom edge of the module and gently pull to remove the module.
- Reinstall the module, screws, cable to Satellite In on the module, plug in the power cord and verify operation.
- The receiver's HDTV set up needs to be adjusted to suit the installation and equipment.
- If the problem persists please call 1-800-333-DISH (3474) for assistance.
